| | | Creator: | Merwin, Erastus Fitch | | | Dates: | 1854-1862 | | | Abstract: | Erastus Fitch Merwin was a resident of Braceville, Trumbull County, Ohio, who sailed to Panama in 1854, traveled across Panama on a mule train, then sailed on to San Francisco, with a brief stop in Acapulco. He eventually settled in Nevada, but returned to Ohio after eight years. In 1863 he joined the 2nd Ohio Cavalry and was captured and died in a Confederate prison at Salisbury, N.C. in 1864.
